Republicans just repealed law blocking mentally ill from owning guns

The House of Representatives have just rolled back a regulation from the Obama administration, which kept people with severe mental illnesses (ex. schizophrenia or severe anxiety) from owning guns.

The House voted 235-180, declaring it a victory for the second amendment.

The National Rifle Association has long opposed the rule.

“The Obama administration’s last minute, back-door gun grab would have stripped law-abiding Americans of their Second Amendment rights without due process,” said Chris Cox, the NRA’s top lobbyist.

Democrats are concerned that this will create unsafe living conditions with the family members who take care of them.

“They have a right to protect their loved ones who may use a weapon against themselves or their family members,” said Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Mass).
